Halleck wearing a striped shirt, glasses, and her hand under her chinLeslie F Halleck is a Certified Professional Horticulturist (ASHS) who has spent her 27+ year career hybridizing horticulture science with home-gardening consumer needs. Halleck earned a B.S. in biology/botany from the University of North Texas and an M.S. in horticulture from Michigan State University. Halleck’s professional experience is both deep and multi-disciplined, with time spent in field research, public gardens, landscaping, garden writing, garden center retail, and horticulture consulting. Halleck has written hundreds of articles for local, regional, and national publications as well as taught countless gardening programs for the home gardener. Her books include “Gardening Under Lights: The Complete Guide for Indoor Growers” and “Plant Parenting: Easy Ways to Make More Houseplants, Vegetables, and Flowers”. Halleck’s upcoming book “Tiny Plants; Discover the joys of collecting and growing itty bitty houseplants” will be released in March, 2021.


Sarah PoundersSarah Pounders has been active in the field of youth gardening for over 20 years. Growing up surrounded by plants instilled a deep love of gardens and the desire to share that love with others. While working toward her master’s degree in Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University, she had the opportunity to serve as a school garden coordinator and conduct research on the benefits of using school garden programs to teach nutrition. She went on to work at various botanical gardens, for Cooperative Extension in Virginia and Texas, and since 2005 as an Education Specialist at KidsGardening.org, coordinating numerous children’s gardens, writing curricula and activities for youth of all ages, teaching formal and informal youth education programs, and conducting teacher training sessions on integrating gardens into the classroom. Sarah also enjoys gardening at home with her two young children and serves as the volunteer garden coordinator at her daughter’s elementary school.
