ABOUT THE SPONSOR:
Founded in 1994, the Klorane Botanical Foundation is the corporate foundation of Pierre Fabre Laboratories.
For 25 years, it has been planting the seeds of botanical passion around the world. The Klorane Botanical Foundation has acted unceasingly to share its botanical passion with future generations through three essential missions: PROTECT plant species under threat, EXPLORE the treasures of the plant world to better understand and protect them, and SHARE botanical knowledge with the largest number of people, particularly children.
Through its commitment to various initiatives, including the Great Green Wall, UNESCO GREEN CITIZENS and Botany for Change, the Klorane Botanical Foundation gives back to plants the place they deserve in our lives and in our cities.
SEE PAST WINNERS:
The Klorane Botanical Foundation is committed to supporting programs to teach respect for the environment and protect nature through the preservation of plant species and biodiversity. Designed to further their mission, the Budding Botanist Grant will help our youngest citizens learn about plants, explore their world and inspire them to take care of the life they discover in their local ecosystems.
In early 2020, twelve grant packages will be awarded to schools across the United States. Three schools will be awarded a $2,250 package. Nine schools will be awarded a $1,250 package.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY
Any public school, charter school or private school serving students in grades K to 12 in the United States that can demonstrate that at least 40% of their student population would qualify for free or reduced price meals is eligible to apply. Applicants must be planning a new or expanding an existing school garden program designed to teach students about environmental sustainability and the importance of biodiversity.
Each grant recipient will receive a package of tools and educational materials valued at $250 along with a check for $2,000 (three schools) or $1,000 (nine schools) to spend on the materials needed to install a new or expand an existing school garden.
In addition to an award package, the three schools that win the $2,250 prize will receive visits from KidsGardening and the Klorane Botanical Foundation at a garden celebration.
GRANT RECIPIENT REQUIREMENTS
Schools that win the $2,250 prize will host a garden celebration planned with the help of KidsGardening and the Klorane Botanical Foundation between March and June of 2020. Winners must be open to hosting guests from local media outlets at these events. They must also distribute and collect media release forms for all participating students. Information about the garden programs of grant recipients will be shared through images and videos digitally and through social media. All funded gardens must be able to be installed by the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
Grant recipients will also be required to complete an end of the year report, providing a minimum of 5-10 digital images of the garden program (with parental release forms for photos of youth as needed) by December of 2020 to document the impact of the program on your students and community.
Due Date: Applications are due November 8, 2019.
Applications must be submitted electronically and completed by the deadline to be considered for an award.
Click here download a pdf file of the questions ahead of time. We strongly advise saving the questions into a Word document and copying and pasting your answers into the application rather than composing your answers directly into the online form.
