KidsGardening is growing—and we’re looking for new board members to help guide our national nonprofit into its next chapter. If you're passionate about youth development, environmental education, community health, or equity in access to green spaces and outdoor learning, we invite you to consider joining our Board of Directors.

About KidsGardening

At KidsGardening, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through gardening. Founded in 1982, we are a national nonprofit on a mission to support the growth and development of youth through garden-based learning.

We create and distribute high-quality educational resources, fund school and community gardens through grant programs, and foster a national network of educators and youth garden leaders. Our work reaches over 3 million children and 25,000 educators annually, helping to spark curiosity, improve mental and physical health, strengthen communities, and grow the next generation of environmental stewards.

We are especially seeking candidates with experience in:

  • Nonprofit leadership and governance
  • Fundraising and philanthropy
  • K–12 or early childhood education
  • Youth development or public health
  • Environmental justice or food systems
  • Finance, law, or communications
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA)

Board Member Expectations

  • Serve a 2-year term (renewable for additional terms)
  • Attend quarterly board meetings via Zoom and one annual in-person retreat (travel covered)
  • Participate in at least one board committee (e.g., Development, Finance, Governance)
  • Make a personal annual contribution at a level that feels meaningful to you
  • Support fundraising and outreach efforts
  • Act as a thoughtful ambassador of KidsGardening’s mission and values

We are a working board committed to shared leadership, inclusion, and impact. You do not need prior board experience to apply—just a willingness to contribute and learn.
