Help Us Keep Kids Gardening: Urgent Support Needed

Gardening is more than just planting seeds—it’s about nurturing curiosity, fostering teamwork, and building confidence in children. For over 40 years, KidsGardening has worked to ensure that young learners across the country have access to school and community gardens that enrich their education and well-being. A major funding setback threatens this mission.

Just last week, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the cancellation of the Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program for fiscal year 2025. This critical program provided over $10 million in funding to help schools and early care centers integrate local foods, nutrition education, and gardening into their meal programs. With Farm to School funding making up more than ten percent of KidsGardening’s budget, this loss could significantly reduce the resources available to educators and students.

This setback doesn’t just affect KidsGardening—it impacts children, teachers, and communities who rely on hands-on gardening programs to enhance learning. Without funding, millions of children may lose access to vital opportunities to connect with nature, learn about nutrition, and develop valuable life skills.

Now, more than ever, we need the support of donors and foundations to bridge this funding gap. With additional support, KidsGardening can continue to:

  • Provide grants to schools and educators for garden-based learning programs.
  • Offer free online educational resources and training for thousands of teachers.
  • Supply gardening materials and curriculum development to communities in need.

The importance of these programs cannot be overstated. School and community gardens serve as living classrooms, teaching children about sustainability, healthy eating, and the environment. By supporting KidsGardening, donors can help ensure that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to experience the joy and educational benefits of gardening.

We refuse to let this challenge stop us, and we know that with the help of partners like you, we can continue making a difference. Every contribution—big or small—goes directly toward sustaining and expanding our impact.

Join us in protecting the future of youth gardening. Together, we can cultivate a generation of problem solvers, environmental stewards, and passionate learners. Donate today to keep kids gardening!
