2019 YOUTH GARDEN GRANT

Since 1982, the Youth Garden Grant has supported school and youth educational garden projects that enhance the quality of life for students and their communities.

Congratulations to the 2019 winners!

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

Any nonprofit organization, public or private school, or youth program in the United States or US Territories planning a new garden program or expanding an established one that serves at least 15 youth between the ages of 3 and 18 is eligible to apply. The selection of winners is based on demonstrated program impact and sustainability. Previous Youth Garden Grant winners who wish to reapply must wait one year after receiving the award and must prove that their garden programs have been significantly expanded.

The 2019 Youth Garden Grant is sponsored by KidsGardening’s generous donor base including our 2019 Trellis Sponsor Gardener’s Supply Company.

GRANT PACKAGES

A total of 25 programs will be awarded.

Top 5 programs will receive award packages valued at $2175 that include:

  • $1000 cash prize
  • A variety of gardening tools and supplies, including:
    • DeerBusters Easy Net Tunnel
    • Dramm Corporation Water Nozzle
    • Eartheasy Seed Saving Kit and Paper Pot Press
    • Fiskars Brands Inc. Hand Tool Package
    • Gardener’s Supply Company Tubtrug
    • High Mowing Organic Seed Package
    • JavaCycle Organic All Purpose Fertilizer
    • Smart Pot Big Bag Bed

20 programs will receive award packages valued at $575 that include:

In addition to the grant award packages, YGG recipients will become members of the KidsGardening Fellows Program receiving opportunities to promote their programs, network with other grant winners, seek personalized guidance from KidsGardening education specialists, and a special quarterly newsletter.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Due Date: This grant opportunity is now closed. Applications were due Monday, December 17, 2018.

All applications must be submitted online. You can download a copy of the questions to view ahead of time as a Word document or  PDF file. We strongly advise saving the questions into a Word document and then copying and pasting the answers into the application rather than composing your answers directly into the online form. Many browsers are set to time out after 30 minutes of inactivity (or sometimes sooner) and so you may loose your work if it takes longer than your browser’s setting to complete or save your entry.

NOTIFICATION AND AWARD FULFILLMENT

Winners will be notified via email on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Winners will be posted on the KidsGardening website by February 5, 2019. Awards will be distributed in February 2019.

REPORTING REQUIREMENT

Grant awardees will be required to report on their garden’s progress within six months of receiving the award. These reports help KidsGardening determine the overall impact of the grant program and gather ongoing support for youth gardening. If you do not feel that you will be able to comply with these reporting requirements, please do not apply. Recipients who do not complete these requirements will not be eligible to apply for future awards.

Reporting requirements include:

  • 5-10 digital images of the school garden, including photos of recipients using the products from the YGG award package
  • Parental release forms to accompany images of children
  • Completion of an online survey
  • Provide an updated overview of the garden program
